Veronica worked at Dempsey's Super Valu at the corner of 13th Avenue and Meridan Street in Mendota. She had worked for the Dempsey's for approximately five years and loved the people she worked with on a daily basis. She was typically seen behind the movie counter and rented out movies to the customers who wanted to pick up a movie with their groceries.  She was well known and many people enjoyed their encounters with the bubbly supermarket clerk.

After Veronica disappeared, there was a hole in the hearts of those that worked with Veronica and the customers she took care of at the store. The Blumhorsts received hundreds of cards and well wishes from people in the community, many of them only knew Veronica from their brief encounters with her at the store.

Super Valu changed hands and was eventually converted into a Save A Lot. The store was torn down in December 2012 and a new building is being constructed on this site.
