As one can imagine, losing a loved one to such mysterious circumstances brings a realm of pain and difficulties. The thoughts that run through the mind range from mild to graphic; all of which are problematic. Survival becomes infinitely more difficult. The general population can't fathom the pain endured and the resources are often not available to those suffering such a loss.

Paul and Betty Blumhorst know all too well how that lack of resources in a situation like this can affect the family unit. They struggled, endured, and survived. They overcame many odds and still continue in their search for Veronica. Paul and Betty found that their faith helped them on this perilous path and also remain very active helping others in their own ways. Paul donates a lot of time to the community food bank and also volunteers in his retirement building for Campers on a Mission who do construction jobs for churches across the country. Betty has found making cookies for our troops and crochets baby blankets for newborns at their church as a way to stay involved and survive. In September 2012, Paul and Betty celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. Paul is a retired firefighter for the City of Mendota and Betty is a retired nursing home worker and government meat inspector.

Carolyn is Veronica's older sister who now lives in California. She and Veronica were very close and her disappearance devastated Carolyn. She has mourned the loss of her sister and wishes to not discuss the disappearance further.

Todd is Veronica's younger brother, also deeply mourned the loss of his sister. They were just becoming mature and their relationship was blossoming at the time of Veronica's disappearance. After many years of struggling, he has found an excellent outlet for his pain and loss. He remembers the pain of not having someone to help him through those dark times and now he is currently a victim advocate with Homicide Survivors Inc. in Tucson, Az. and specializes in unresolved (cold case) homicides. He also writes a lot about grief and loss with a particular emphasis on unresolved grief and the special issues surrounding a missing persons case. You will find links to some of his writings below.
