The Aftermath
As one can imagine, the Blumhorst family was dealt a devastating blow in the disappearance of Veronica. She was a very beloved member of the family as well as the community. Her disappearance affected the entire community at the time and even today people of Mendota get chills when they ear the name Veronica Blumhorst.
Each family member coped with the devastation in their own manner. Some found their faith gave them comfort while another created artistic ceramics. Yet others found other combinations of faith and arts. The years after have been difficult for the Blumhorsts to find peace and closure for this open wound. The road has been difficult but they have survived.
Paul and Betty beat the odds against their marriage dissolving as 90%+ of couples divorce after the murder or disappearance of their child, in September 2012 they celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.
Todd is a victim advocate for Homicide Survivors Inc in Tucson, Arizona where he assists families of murder victims, he specializes in cold case homicides and missing persons.
Carolyn resides outside of Illinois and chooses to not discuss the painful memories associated with Veronica. She misses her sister immensely and her privacy will be respected.
